A mouse pad is a surface on which you position, move, and click a computer mouse. Particularly in comparison to using a computer mouse directly on a table, a mouse pad increases the efficiency of the mouse by creating a surface for precise and jitter-free movement calculation. To accommodate all forms of mouse technology, there are a variety of mouse pads with many distinct textured surfaces. Due to its existing adhesive properties, the vinyl board cover was a popular surface for mouse pads around 1980. Modern mouse pads are usually made of rubber composites of lesser density with upper surface bonded fabric.
WHEN WAS THE FIRST MOUSE PAD USED?
During a presentation by Douglas Engelbart in 1968 marking a mouse's public debut, Engelbart used a control console designed by Herman Miller's Jack Kelley which included a keyboard and an inset portion used as the mouse support area. Kelley designed the first mouse pad a year later, in 1969. By 1982, most Xerox ball mouse users had been using special pads to increase ball friction in the mouse. Moustrak, founded by Bob McDermand, was the first commercial manufacturer of the mousepads. The business began to gain attention when Apple agreed to sell its mousepads, featuring the Apple logo, to US computer stores. Lower cost mousepads, however, turned the product into a commodity by the late 1980s. .The Oxford English Dictionary traces the word mouse pad as published by InfoWorld on 24 August 1983, and the mainly British word mouse mat as published on 17 October 1989, in 3D publication.
A MOUSE WITHOUT A MOUSE PAD? NOT ANYMORE
Not everybody uses a mouse pad, but it might be time to rethink, even if only to enhance the gaming for your PC. Mousepads are a remnant of the past for others. Mousepads are a crucial device aid for some. Are pads for the mouse necessary? Can they have any advantages? Well hell yeah, they do! After a full day of using the computer mouse, do you feel that your hand is stiff by the end? If so, it may be that your wrist may not like being at an uncomfortable angle or leaning against a heavy desk. A regular mouse pad is perfect in itself as having your wrist on a soft surface is a lot better than having it on a rough desk. Trying to drag a mouse for hours every day over the same section of your table will inevitably wear down the table. A good mouse pad, however, will prevent that from happening to your desk. Of course, mousepads are not immortal either. You could find scuffs on them after a while too but then replacing a mouse pad is much simpler and cheaper than replacing your entire desk because of its surface. Soon enough, Mouse Pads gain huge attention and success and became mandatory equipment for a computer system. The three main advantages of introducing the mouse pad were higher speed, more accuracy, and user comfort. A secondary benefit was to keep the desk or table surface from being scratched and worn by continuous rubbing motion of the hand and the mouse. Another advantage was the reduction of debris accumulation under the mouse, resulting in reduced jitter of the display pointer. Different detergents, liquid soap, hand wash, or dry cleaning will purify the mousepads. When optical mice were first introduced to the market using image sensors to detect movement, special mouse pads with optical patterns impressed on them were needed. Modern optical mice can work on plain paper and other surfaces to an appropriate degree of precision.
